Rayola is collecting preschool nap-time quilts for Michigan’s Great Start Readiness Programs

Help us make 400 nap-time quilts this summer by picking up a simple, easy kit today!

Summer is right around the corner. Which means it is the perfect time to start a new quilting project. Ladies and gents, look no further. This summer Rayola has a goal of making/collecting 400 nap-time quilts for preschoolers, and we need your help to do it.

Rayola is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comfort care items to children in foster care and any child in need. While our work generally centers on supporting children in foster care, we know children in many other places and stages of life need our help too.

Preschool is often one of the first times children are away from their family and the familiar. It can be scary and overwhelming. On top of that, children participating in the state of Michigan’s incredible Great Start Readiness Programs (GSRP) come from backgrounds that also put them at risk for educational failure for various reasons outside their control. How can we help?

Thankfully, research on preschool programs and GSRP indicates that children provided with a high-quality preschool experience show significant positive developmental differences when compared to children from the same backgrounds who did not attend a high-quality preschool program.

By partnering with the state-funded program, Rayola strives to contribute to the high-quality experiences provided by GSRPs. With your help, we will be donating pocket pillows with books and 400 nap-time quilts to GSRP programs in the 15 counties we serve this fall. These pillows, books, and quilts will help the four-year-olds in the program feel the comfort and support of their community.

And we haven’t even told you the best part: we are providing kits of all the supplies you will need to make the nap-time quilts! Each kit will have enough fabric and supplies to make three blankets and simple directions for how to put the quilts together. We want this project to be fun, simple, and accessible to anyone.
