Euchre is more than just a pastime—it’s a tradition. Join us for a Rayola Euchre Night!

By Jude Henrie

In Michigan, cold weather and Euchre go hand in hand. As the leaves start to fall and now the clocks have turned, we gather around kitchen tables and bar tops to play a few rounds. The deck is smaller, the rules are sharp, and the competition is fierce but friendly. Partners learn to read each other’s moves almost as well as they read the cards, and every “trump” and “euchre” is met with cheers or groans that echo through the room. Euchre nights become a rhythm of laughter, shuffling, and the satisfying clack of cards against wood—an antidote to the gray chill outside.

Euchre is more than just a pastime—it’s a tradition that connects generations. Grandparents teach grandkids the art of calling “next,” friends play for pride, and even newcomers are quickly swept into the camaraderie. Between rounds, conversations drift from snowstorms to summer lake plans, and the warmth of good company makes the cold seem miles away. In a season built for staying in, Euchre gives us a reason to gather, stay up late, and make the most of long nights.

What better way to celebrate the turning of the seasons than with a community Euchre tournament? This November, Rayola is excited to host a Euchre Night! Bring your best partner, family, and friends to play the night away as the seasons change.

Here’s what you need to know:

🥉 3rd Place – Culver’s gift cards for a family of four

💤 Last Place – Lotto Board (because coming in last is still quite an achievement)

Of course, it would feel great to come home with a prize, but regardless, the funds raised will help care for children who need it most this holiday season. The tournament is filling up fast, but it’s not too late to reserve your spot and play for some exciting prizes alongside friends and family!

If you (or anyone you bring along) have never played euchre before, this is not the place to learn—the competition moves quickly! We recommend getting a few practice rounds in before you join us on Saturday.

If you’ve never played, or if you’re feeling rusty, here's a video tutorial:

You Won? Here’s How to Spend It

When you buy your ticket, come play, and maybe even win the tournament, you’ll be walking away with a nice cash prize. What should you do with your winnings? If you want to fully embrace the Midwestern spirit after euchre night, here are a few uniquely Michigander ways to spend $200:

  1. Get Cozy at a Cider Mill

With $200, you could walk in and out of any cider mill in Michigan with a bag full of the greatest seasonal treats—caramel apples, apple-spiced donuts, gallons of fresh cider, and honey sticks. It won’t be long until the fall leaves get covered in snow, so make the most of it while you still can.

  1. Stash the Money for Packzi Day

February will come sooner than you think. If you win the full $200, you could be perfectly set up for Packzi day on February 17th. You could buy nearly eight dozen packzis…just something to think about.

  1. Vernors

What good would this list be without mentioning Vernors? In case you were wondering, $200 would get you roughly 360 cans of Michigan’s favorite ginger ale. Pair your Vernors with vanilla ice cream to make Boston Coolers for the whole family.

  1. A Slice of Traverse City Tradition

Spend your winnings in the Cherry Capital of the World—Traverse City. Two hundred dollars could buy you a tour of the town’s best bakeries, each offering its own spin on a Michigan cherry pie. Warm, tart, and perfectly sweet, every slice would taste like pure Michigan and a well-earned euchre win.

Come and Play to Win!

No matter how you may choose to spend your winnings, we’ll be thrilled to have you come and join us for this charitable euchre night. It will be a fun evening, and remember, win or lose, it’s all for a good cause!
